Helping students discover mathematical thinking
The Spark
It started with a simple curiosity: Why did so many of my classmates fear mathematics when I found it endlessly fascinating? That question inspired me to found my school's first Mathematics Community—a space open to every STEM student, from those relearning fundamentals to those pursuing Olympiad-level problem solving.
Building the Foundation
After securing approval from the principal and school counselors, I designed the club's mission, governance structure, and a year-long activity framework. Over the next two years, I led a 4–6 member executive committee, organizing problem-solving sessions, peer mentoring, and conceptual workshops for 15–20 active members.
Creating Impact
Beyond group sessions, I provided one-on-one mentorship for students preparing for the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and the Aryabhatta Mathematics Competition. Through personalized study plans, I helped many students improve their mathematics performance by 10–15 percentage points.
Lasting Legacy
What mattered most, however, wasn't the numbers—it was seeing students who once feared mathematics begin to appreciate its logic, patterns, and beauty. Watching them transform their mindset from viewing mathematics as a subject to survive into a way of understanding the world became the most rewarding achievement of my journey.
